Constipation is most commonly due to –
- Lack of Fluids & Roughage
- Intake of drugs which are made of synthetic chemicals
- Irregular bowel Habits
- Lack of sufficient physical exercise
- Mental Stress
- Vitamin B Deficiency
- Overuse of laxatives
- Incomplete Chewing food
- High Intake of Refined foods
- Not going to the toilet when you feel the urge to
- Pregnancy (hormonal changes) may cause constipation.
- Menopause and menstruation (hormonal changes) may cause constipation.
- Over-eating of Bananas
Remedies –
- For Lean patients – Butter, Cooking Oil is good (but avoid fried food). Dry-fruits like Figs, Raisins, Dates, apricots are also useful. Dates along with milk is also very helpful.
- Un-absorbable cellulose (Like vegetables & whole fruit) can be supplied in bulk to obese patients.
- Vegetable soup, Fruit Juices, are also beneficial.
- Warm water in early morning (on empty stomach) also helps in preventing constipation.
- Wheat Bran and unrefined cereals can also be provided in bulk to patients.
- 1-2 teaspoons of almond oil with milk for 3-4 days also relieves constipation
- Triphala powder with 200 ml warm water or milk also relieves constipation.
- Before sleeping 2-3 spoons of isabgol can be taken with water. (One of the best remedy)
- Regular Exercise also prevents constipation
- Ripe papaya is also helpful
