Gestational diabetes can be simply defined as high blood sugar during pregnancy. You are more likely to get gestational diabetes:
- If you are over 35 years of age
- if you are overweight, or have a family history of diabetes
- You already have pre-diabetes (fasting Blood glucose over 100 mg/dl, and/or two hour post glucose value greater than 140 mg/dl)
- You have a history of gestational diabetes in previous pregnancy
- You are a smoker
- You have polycystic ovarian disease.
Note – High blood sugar levels can be unhealthy for both you and your baby.
Treatment plan:
- There should be Daily blood glucose monitoring.
- Eat Fruits, vegetables which prevent constipation.
- Don’t skip meals
- Should have foods high in iron
- Follow some exercise program. A low-intensity walking for 30 minutes a day can help women lower their blood sugar.
- Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water before, during, and after physical activity
